Head Coach Bruce Erickson

Blue Valley High School has brought aboard Bruce Erickson, a longtime College and High School coach with over 36 years of experience. He has collegiate career stops at Oklahoma State, UMKC, and The University of Saint Mary. Prior to coming to Blue Valley High School, Coach Erickson, originally from Phillipsburg, Kansas, also coached high school basketball in Kansas for 24 years. He has won 389 games during his stops at Salina South, Ellis High School, and Morland High School and his collegiate stops. Coach Erickson wants to build on Blue Valley's history and will work hard towards a conference championship and ultimately, a state championship!

Devan Savner

This is Coach Savner’s fourth year as the girls' basketball coach at Blue Valley High. This is her third year coaching the JV team. Prior to that, she coached the freshman team.

Coach Savner is a 2010 graduate of Great Bend High School. Prior to coaching at Blue Valley High, Coach Savner played two years of collegiate basketball at Barton Community College, after which she completed her education at Emporia State University. In 2014 she received her bachelor's degree in secondary mathematics education. Coach Savner is currently in her fourth year teaching mathematics at Blue Valley High School.

Jim Mowry

Coach Mowry is in his 45th year of coaching. He has coached boys and girls as both a head coach and assistant coach. Coach Mowry graduated from McPherson College in 1970 where he was a two to time KCAC All-League selection. He retired as an academic counselor from Shawnee Mission Northwest in the spring of 2015 and currently works as a substitute teacher in the Blue Valley and Shawnee Mission school districts.

David Bernica

Coach Bernica, now a kindergarten teacher at sunrise point, returns for his third season at BVH, where he has loved building connections and developing skills with the C team. Coach Bernica grew up in Montana, playing small town, fast break basketball. He proceeded to graduate with a teaching degree from Seattle University prior to taking his first teaching and coaching job on the Fort Belknap reservation in Montana. After two wonderfully challenging years, Coach Bernica earned his Master’s in Education from Notre Dame while also teaching/coaching in Tucson, Arizona. Then, following his wife eastward, Coach Bernica took on high school English and the Girls’ Basketball at the inner-city school, Cristo Rey Boston. Now with a three-year-old son, coach and his wife look to plant some roots here in Kansas where his parents and siblings also now reside.

Ty Appleton

Coach Appleton is a first year coach in the Blue Valley Lady Tiger program.
